In horrible news, Glen Kennedy, legendary San Fernando valley surfer/shaper/shop owner, passed away last week. According to Lee Kennedy, Glen’s son, he suffered a massive stroke on a local cruise from L. A. to Ensenada.
Since opening Kennedy Surf Shop in Woodland Hills in 1972, Glen hand-shaped countless surfboards for generations of west valley surfers. A ripping Malibu regular, Kennedy helped break down the “locals only, no Vals” barriers of the 70s and 80s.
A man of many surf adventures, Glen is remembered by family, friends, customers, and the surf industry as one of the kindest humans you would ever meet.
“We will miss our friend Glen Kennedy,” said OnIt Pro, maintenance products for surfing, SUP, water sports. “A legend in the surf industry, amazing surfer/shaper/businessman and great guy, whose surf shop in the west end of the San Fernando valley has been in the same location for as long as I can remember. I’m sure Glen’s son will continue his legacy as Glen will now be Surfing the Ranch for eternity!”
A paddle out for Glen Kennedy is in the planning stage.
