For the first-time in X Games history, an Adaptive Skateboard Park contest will be added to the summer lineup in Minneapolis. As part of the introduction, pro skater Ryan Sheckler and his foundation will present the adaptive skaters with a $10,000 grant and clinic on the X Games course.
“This hits close to home for me. Shining light on Adaptive Skateboarders and athletes has been something I hold close to my heart – watching these guys and girls work hard and defying the odds on the daily is not only a blessing to see, but truly motivating.” stated Ryan Sheckler, co-founder of the Sheckler Foundation. “I’m stoked to watch them crush it in Minneapolis in the Adaptive Skateboard Park and I couldn’t think of a better stage for them to showcase their talents to the world.”
Adaptive Sports have been a focus that the Sheckler Foundation holds near and dear to their hearts. At the Sheckler Foundation’s 9th Annual Skate For a Cause presented by Oakley in 2018, the event featured the first Wheelchair Motocross (MCMX) and Adaptive Skate contest.
Paying respect to all the opportunities X Games has provided Ryan through the years, the Sheckler Foundation could not think of a better platform to showcase all that adaptive sports athletes have to offer on a competitive level.
