While it’s not the Mavericks Big Wave Challenge postponed due to dangerous surf, San Diego County has its own surf advisory in effect until 10 p.m. Tuesday.
Issued by the National Weather Service, a large, long period west-northwest swell will bring very sizable and potentially damaging surf to San Diego late Sunday through Tuesday morning.
Producing waves over double overhead, sets are reported to hit between 8 to 12 feet. Over in South Del Mar, the NWS is reporting 13 footers could roll through.
Needless to say, the high surf and strong rip currents could create a high risk of drowning at the beaches, so, be careful out there.
