Today, June 15th, marks the 11th annual National Flip Flop Day, a day to honor our favorite form of footwear in Southern California. Worn year round for comfort, style, and protection from blazing hot concrete, flip flops originated as early as the ancient Egyptians in 1,500 B.C. and are worn by many cultures throughout the world — but, NEVER with socks.
To help with your open-toed investment this summer, here are some of our favorite sandals on National Flip Flop Day:
5. SANUK BEER COZY / YOGA MATS
Known for providing plenty of stoke and shakas with their line of amazingly comfortable sandals, Sanuk’s Beer Cozy, and their sister flip flops, Yoga Mats, are extremely soft and comfortable, akin to walking on an actual yoga mat. Light, foamy and refreshing, theses sandals will keep your feet buzzing all day.
4. Cobian Sandals
If you’re looking for an all around sandal that radiates good vibes, Cobian is for you. A classic style sandal that is as affordable as it versatile, the San Marcos-based company is also a steward of the environment and provided relief to humanitarian issues. Score.
3. REEF FANNINGS
You can’t have a list without throwing this classic REEF Fanning on it. Not much has changed to its design (including the weird air heel,) but the homies still love this #TBT sandal complete with bottle opener on the sole of a sandal. No retirement on the horizon for this Fanning.
2. OLUKAI OHANA
From the luxury category of sandals, OluKai Ohanas are rugged, soft, and insanely expensive — but, yew get what yew pay for. Good enough for date night or a hang at the beach, the Ohanas are an incredible multi purpose sandal.
1. LEATHER RAINBOWS
With no introduction needed, Leather Rainbows are possibly the best sandals on the planet. While they take some extra time to break in (and destroy your toes in the process,) they morph into a lifetime of comfort and durability. YEW!
