Mama’s Day raises funds to feed at-risk San Diegans

Mama’s Kitchen serves three hot, nutritional meals a day, seven days a week and free of charge to San Diego local women, men and children that are at-risk to hunger due to critical illnesses such as HIV/AIDS or cancer.

Founded in 1990, Mama’s Kitchen was established by “a caring community came together to ensure that those suffering were given a chance at life and were able to receive one of their most basic rights — the right to nutritious food.”

And in 27 years, the organization has delivered more than 8 million meals and has never turned away an eligible client.

The ensure the viability of the service they provide, Mama’s Day 2018, a fundraiser presented by Nordstrom and hosted by Sycuan Casino, will be held from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. Friday, May 11, at the Hyatt Regency La Jolla at Aventine, 3777 La Jolla Village Drive.

The 27th annual fundraiser is billed as the first food tasting event in San Diego history and features culinary offerings from 50 of San Diego’s best restaurants and chefs. In addition to the tasty grub, the fundraiser features drinks, live music, opportunity drawings and a silent auction.

This year’s culinary host is Emmy award-winning chef and author, Sam “The Cooking Guy” Zien, who will be providing a special cooking presentation for VIP guests.
