With the warm weather heating up our beaches this weekend, maybe you were hoping to occupy a small square of sand to catch some early-season rays at the Oceanside Harbor this weekend.

That may be tougher than you thought.

Starting Friday, May 4, and continuing through Sunday, May 6, the Beach Soccer Championships will invade Harbor Beach in Oceanside. The tournament represents the start of the summer soccer season in Southern California and provides a fresh break away from traditional soccer environments.

Boys and girls ages 8 and up will be competing all weekend in this unique, hyperfast brand of soccer on the sand — but adults from all over the country will be participating in the Women’s Open and U.S. Pro Open Men’s divisions.

This year, 13u-19u boys and girls, as well Men, Women, and Co-Ed groups will have the chance to compete at the U.S. Beach Soccer National Championships later in the year.

It is free to attend the tournament, if you’ve got a squad you want to enter, it’s too late. Games are held at 1200 N Pacific St., Oceanside, for more information, visit www.beachsoccerusa.org.
