Another week, another awesome taco. Quite the life, right? #Blessed. Let’s get to it. Welcome to 52 Weeks of Tacos, Week 11. Today, we’re spotlighting a classic with a twist: the Potato Taco from Lolita’s. If you haven’t had the opportunity to taste a potato taco before, prepare yourself for totally satisfied taste buds.
Lolita’s has been supplying the community with some seriously awesome tacos since 1984 – a family run business founded by Joaquin and Dolores Farfan in hopes of providing for their children and introducing authentic, excellent Mexican food straight from their family kitchen, to the locals. Now with six locations across San Diego, it’s easier than ever to get your hands on one of their classic tacos.
Creamy, buttery, seasoned mashed-to-perfection potatoes, crisp ice-cold lettuce, shredded cheddar, and crumbled cotija cheese – heaped in a healthy portion on top of a hard-shell tortilla. Sounds pretty simple, and maybe that’s what we loved about it: the potato had a nod of nostalgia and familiarity to it, reminiscent of a Sunday night, but when the cotija and bite of the lettuce hits, you realize this is potato 2.0. This is no Sunday night dinner. This is a potato taco, an elevated potato experience that will leave you wondering why you never insisted this be a taco staple in your life. Lolita’s Potato Taco: Best enjoyed on Taco Tuesday (or really, any day) with good friends, good beer, and good weather. Lucky for us, in San Diego, it’s easy to have all three.
Have you tried Lolita’s Potato Taco? Do you love it? Need it? Gotta have it? Let us know!
